Plomari rises around its harbour and the mouth of the Sedountas stream. The waterfront, market, squares and old neighbourhoods connect through streets made for wandering, while beaches and the Plomari villages give you every reason to stay longer.
Begin at the harbour
Have your first coffee beside the fishing boats and follow the waterfront towards the market. Bakeries, small shops and the movement of the day reveal a town that lives throughout the year.
Then take the lanes above the sea. Bridges cross the Sedountas and join the neighbourhoods on either side, with hillside houses rising behind the port.
Discover the story behind the streets
Until the mid-19th century, the small settlement at the mouth of the Sedountas was known as Potamos. After major fires in old Plomari in 1841–1843 and the decline of piracy, many residents moved towards the coast. The new town prospered through olive oil, soap making, shipbuilding, distilling and trade.
Look for mansions, churches, warehouses, former factories and chimneys. The name Tarsanas recalls the shipyards, while the ouzo museums and distilleries bring a continuing craft into view.
From town to the beach
Ammoudeli, Tarsanas and Plakakia are close enough to combine with time in town. Agios Isidoros suits a longer beach day.
In the other direction, pair Melinda with a walk in Palaiochori. Treat Panagia Kryfti as a separate boat experience rather than an ordinary beach stop.
